Margin ("we", "our", or "the app") is a multilingual vocabulary learning app. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Data We Collect

We collect the following data to provide our service:

• Account information — Your Apple ID email (or Apple's private relay email) and display name, provided through Apple Sign-In.
• Vocabulary data — Words you look up and save, including definitions, translations, and example sentences.
• App preferences — Your language settings, visual preferences, and app language choice.
• Subscription status — Whether you have an active Pro subscription, managed through Apple's in-app purchase system and RevenueCat.

2. How We Use Your Data

• Providing the service — Your vocabulary data is stored securely so you can review and manage your word list across sessions.
• AI-powered word lookups — When you look up a word, your query is sent to Google's Gemini AI API for processing. Google processes this data according to their Gemini API Terms of Service.
• Text-to-Speech pronunciation — When you play a word's pronunciation, the text is sent to Google Cloud Text-to-Speech API. Google processes this data according to their Cloud Terms of Service.
• Subscription management — RevenueCat processes your subscription status. They act as a data processor on our behalf. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services that may process your data:

• Supabase (database & authentication) — Stores your account and vocabulary data. Privacy Policy
• Google Gemini AI (word lookups) — Processes your search queries to generate definitions and translations. Only the word/phrase and language settings are sent; no personal identifiers are included.
• Google Cloud Text-to-Speech (pronunciation) — Processes text to generate audio. Only the word/phrase is sent; no personal identifiers are included.
• RevenueCat (subscription management) — Manages subscription status. Privacy Policy
• Apple (authentication & payments) — Handles Sign-In and in-app purchases. Privacy Policy

4. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on Supabase's cloud infrastructure (powered by AWS). We use Row Level Security (RLS) to ensure you can only access your own data. All data transmission is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS.

5. Data Retention

Your vocabulary data and account information are retained as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed from our servers within 30 days.

6. Your Rights (GDPR & Global)

Regardless of where you live, you have the right to:

• Access — Request a copy of your personal data.
• Rectification — Correct inaccurate personal data.
• Erasure — Delete your account and all associated data via the "Delete Account" option in the app's settings drawer.
• Data portability — Request your data in a machine-readable format.
• Object — Object to processing of your personal data.

For EU/EEA residents: We process your data based on contractual necessity (providing the service you signed up for) and legitimate interest (improving the app). You may exercise your rights by contacting us at the email below.

7. Children's Privacy

Margin is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

8. Tracking & Advertising

Margin does not track you across apps or websites. We do not use advertising SDKs, analytics tracking, or any form of cross-app tracking. We do not collect your device's IDFA (Advertising Identifier).

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by updating the "Last updated" date above.
